Vallarai Keerai Thuvaiyal Recipe/Vallarai Keerai Chutney(Brahmi Leaves Chutney):

Vallari Keerai chutney is a very healthy side dish for Idli, Dosa and rice. I will not tell you that it is tasty as regular coconut chutney. But this recipe can help you to make the best vallarai keerai chutney(in Tamil). Vallarai keerai is known for very good memory power. So, if you are a mom, you can add this keerai in your kid's diet at least once a week.



Vallarai keerai thuvaiyal is one of the easiest recipes you can make with this particular keerai variety. There is a lot of health benefits in using this vallarai keerai(Brahmi leaves). You might have heard about Brahmi oil for hair problems like hair loss, hair thinning and premature greying. I have already

Vallarai Keerai Thuvaiyal Recipe/Vallarai Keerai Chutney(Brahmi Leaves Chutney):


Ingredients:

Vallarai Keerai/Brahmi Leaves(in Hindi) - 1 cup
Peeled Onion Shallots - 3
Peeled Ginger - 1 inch
Peeled Garlic - 6 flakes
Dry red chillies - 2 to 4 as required
Gingelly Oil - 1 tbsp or any edible oil
Curry leaves - few
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Bengal gram(Kadalai paruppu) - 1 tbsp
Tamarind - 1.5 peanut size
Salt - to taste
Water - As required

Instructions:

1. Clean the brahmi leaves(vallarai keerai in Tamil) and keep ready. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add urad dal, peeled onion shallots, ginger, garlic, dry red chillies, cumin seeds, curry leaves, urad dal and bengal gram. Saute till the bengal gram and urad dal turns golden brown in color. Take care not to burn them. Transfer the contents to a plate.

2. Saute the vallarai keerai(brahmi leaves) in the same pan till they soft and cooked.

3. Add all the above ingredients in a mixie once they cool down. Add salt, tamarind and required water. Grind it to chutney(thogaiyal) consistency. We do not have any more thing to do with the vallarai chutney after grinding. So,check the taste of the chutney in the mixer itself and adjust red chillies and salt if required.
