Recipe for Poha(Aval Upma/Flattened Rice)

Hello friends,

Today comes the wonderful recipe for Poha. I got this recipe from my Maharashtrian friend. I love it very much. It was yummy. Try this easy recipe for Poha and it will be one of your whole family's favorite breakfast recipe from now on. Your kids will never say no for this mouthwatering breakfast.

Recipe for Poha


Poha recipe:


Poha(Aval) - 200 grams
Onion(large) - 1 finely chopped
Green Chillies - 2 nos
Lemon juice - extracted from half lemon
Corriander leaves - few
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - As needed
Sugar - 1 tsp

To Temper:

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds(Jeera) - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Oil - 2 tsp
Ghee - 1 tsp


1. Rinse Poha/Aval well with water twice or thrice. It will become little soft and should be clean.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add ghee. 
3. Add the 'To Temper' items. Wait till they splutter.
4. Add onion and green chillies. Fry well till it turns into golden brown color.
5. Add Poha/Aval, turmeric powder, sugar and salt.
6. Add water little by little. Don't add too much of water. 
7. Once Poha gets cooked, add lemon juice.
8. Switch off the stove after one minute.
9. Add corriander leaves for garnishing.

Now your tasty and yummy Poha is ready to serve. It tastes well only if it is hot. If you are going to eat later, put it in a pan and little water to make it hot. It is very good recipe for breakfast and snacks as well.
