Actually, I had a plan to make ice cream without ice cream maker. I tried twice with ice cream mixes from two different brands available in the market. I do not remember the brand names since they were not so popular. Both of the times, I was ended up being a sole eater. My hubby did not like it. I threw up half of the ice cream since I was not able to eat alone even after 3 days. My mom told me that ice cream made with custard powder is coming up great. I decided to try it. Most of the recipes were asking to mix cream. I agree that adding fresh cream makes the ice cream tastier. But, I was not able to find small pack of fresh cream and I did not want to buy large pack. So, I decided to try it without cream like my mom tried. Finally, the ice cream came up with a great taste and I had to fight to take pictures. When I took pictures 3/4th of the ice cream got emptied and started melting out. But, I managed to take a picture to post this recipe since it will be really useful for the moms who want to prepare ice cream for their kids without ice cream maker and cream. No cream means less budget, right?

How To Make Ice Cream Without Ice Cream Maker And Cream - Homemade Vanilla Ice cream:




Homemade Vanilla Ice cream Recipe - How To Make Ice Cream Without Ice Cream Maker And Cream

Prep Time: 15 mins    |  Cook time: 30 Mins    |  Makes: 500 ml ice cream

Ingredients:

  • Vanilla Custard powder - 2 tbsp
  • Milk - 500ml
  • Sugar - 5 tbsp





Instructions:


1. Boil the milk in a big pan.  Keep 3 tbsp of milk aside for mixing with custard powder later.


2. Mix the reserved 3 tbsp milk with the custard powder and make a smooth paste. The custard powder and milk mixture should not have any lumps.





3. Once the milk is boiled, add sugar and keep the stove in low flame. Add the custard powder and milk mixture to the sauce pan. It will start thickening.




4. Stir it continuously till the mixture turns to idli dosa batter consistency. Switch off the flame. Allow the vanilla ice cream mixture to cool down completely.

5. If you have fresh cream in stock, add 2 tbsp of fresh cream to the vanilla ice cream mixture and stir well. This step is optional.

6. Whip the vanilla ice cream mixture in a mixer for a minute.

7. Pour the vanilla ice cream mixture in a freezer safe box and freeze it for one hour.




8. Take out the ice cream mixture and whip it again. Keep it in freezer.

9. After one hour, take the mixture again. Whip it for one minute and freeze it for 6 hours. Your vanilla ice cream is ready to eat.





Notes:

1. Choose a big size sauce pan for making ice cream instead of your regular size pan which you use for boiling milk.

2. I used Aavin blue packet for making this ice cream. Choose low fat milk always to make ice cream.

3. I used Amul ice cream box which we have bought to keep the ice cream in fridge. You can use same kind of plastic ice cream boxes.

4. You can use any flavor custard powder and follow the same procedure to enjoy different ice cream flavors.
