Ragi Manni Recipe | Ragi Halwa For Babies, Toddlers and Kids

Ragi Manni Recipe | Ragi Halwa For Babies, Toddlers and Kids:

Ragi Manni is one of the healthy traditional South Indian recipes that we make often especially for babies and kids. The key ingredients are Ragi flour, jaggery and coconut milk. Now you can very well assume how tasty the dish should be. This Ragi Manni recipe is my version of Sweet Ragi Porridge. Ragi is rich in fiber.

I prefer to make Ragi Manni in a pudding consistency as it is easy to consume. Few people make it in Halwa consistency. Please check at the end of the post to know more details about it.

I have used instant Ragi Flour. You can even use Manna Health mix and follow the same recipe.

Some of the benefits of Ragi include high protein and fibre content, richness in minerals, ability to control diabetes, anti-microbial and anti-cancer properties, reduction of bad cholesterol, prevention of early ageing and cardiovascular diseases.

Do we need any other explanation why Ragi should be included in our family diet? Well, if that can be served as a natural sweet dish, there is no need to keep it at bay.

About the taste:

As we are adding jaggery, coconut milk and cardamom, this Ragi Manni | Sweet Ragi Porridge tastes more like a traditional dish like Paasi Paruppu payasam.

About Storage:

Ragi Manni | Sweet Ragi Porridge does not have a longer shelf life if kept outside as we are adding coconut milk and milk. Keep it in a refrigerator for longer shelf life. Serving it cold also tastes very good. Though you can store in a refrigerator to extend the shelf life of Ragi Manni/Sweet Ragi Porridge, the original taste starts changing. So, it is better to consume within 2 days.

Keep it in an airtight storage or any stainless steel container with tight lid.

Ragi Manni ragi halwa

To Make Ragi Halwa:

For making in Halwa consistency, you have to ignore the milk from the below Ragi Manni recipe. Also, you have to cook the mixture till it is not sticking to the sides of the pan. After cooking, you have to spread it on a plate greased with ghee and allow it to cool. You can also cut into pieces if you desire. Keep it in a refrigerator to get the mixture thickened quickly.

To Make Ragi Pudding:

If you are going to make in pudding consistency, add milk.

To prepare Ragi Manni from scratch:

Soak Finger millet in water overnight. Grind it in a grinder in the next day morning. Filter the ground batter using a muslin cloth. Use the filtered milk instead of instant ragi flour.

Hope you liked the recipe of Ragi Manni. This can be given as main food or evening snacks for babies, toddlers and kids. You can ensure that your child is packed with a lot of energy and nutrients.
