Onion Chutney | Vengaya Chuntey Recipe | Easy Onion Chutney Recipe with no coconut and no tomato:
It will be really difficult to decide what to prepare for dinner if we have no coconut since chutney is the best side dish after Sambar for dosa or idli. I was in the same situation one fine night. I was waiting for my groceries including coconut for home delivery. When I took the coconut, it was not good at all. It was too late to choose tiffin sambar since I was very hungry. So, I called my mom to get the recipe of onion chutney. I have never prepared onion chuntey before. But I regret for not trying that. Onion chutney is such a simple and easy recipe which can be prepared very quickly. You will find onion chutney coming to save you too.
1. Peel off the skin from onions.
2. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan, add red chillies, onions and fry well till they turn to golden brown color.
3. Grind onions, red chilli and tamarind with required salt and water. Taste the onion chutney in the half way. If you want it to be more spicy, add red chillies one by one. I added only one since we prefer very low spicy level and the added red chilli was so spicy. The onion will also make the chutney more spicy. So, go on and add more chillies only after tasting while grinding.
4. Heat the remaining 1 tsp of oil and fry the 'To Temper' items allowing the mustard seeds to splutter. Add them to the onion chutney.
Now your onion chutney/vengaya chutney is ready. The only thing you have to be careful while preparing onion chutney is in adding the red chillies. Add one by one only after tasting.
