Prep Time: 10 mins    |  Cook time: 30 Mins    |  Serves: 7-8
Quick and Easy Tea Time Snacks - Thukkada

Ingredients:

  • Wheat Flour/Atta - 100g
  • All Purpose Flour/Maida - 50g
  • Red Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
  • Garlic - 2 cloves crushed to a fine paste
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - A pinch
  • Salt - As required
  • Oil - For deep frying

Instructions:

1. Mix all the ingredients except oil in a wide mixing bowl.

2. Add water little by little and make a soft dough as we make for Chapathi.

3. Make small lemon sized balls and spread them by a rolling pin like Chapathi. It should be as thin as possible to get crispy Thukkada. Use wheat/Maida flour for dusting.

4. Cut the dough into square pieces horizontally and vertically to get diamond shaped Thukkada using a knife or tool used for making Thukkada.

5. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the pieces. Make sure that the Thukkada does not get burnt. Check out how to deep fry Thukkada correctly in my post on Ribbon Pakoda here.

Now the tasty Thukkada is ready to serve. Store it in an air tight container once it cools down.

Notes:

1. To make the Thukkada more healthy, use 150g of wheat flour and do not add Maida.

2. To make the Thukkada more cripsy, use 150g of Maida and do not add wheat flour. You can go to this option when you want a variation or you want to make it more crispy for guests.

3. To get crispy and healthy, use the combination as mentioned in the ingredients.

The choice is yours.
