Narthangai Pickle - Narthangai Pachadi Recipe - Citron Pickle

Hello friends,

My mom is not at all buying pickles from outside nowadays.  She is preparing all kind of pickles/thokku at home itself for health reasons. I used to give the citron/Narthangai to other people if I get it from my neighbor. Nowadays I also started preparing the pickles/thokku at home. One of such homemade recipe with Citron/Bitter Orange is Narthangai pachadi. My mom never misses to pack Narthangai pachadi in a bottle and send it to me. It has more shelf life if you keep it in fridge. Try this Narthangai pachadi at your home and please your family members who are fan of pickles.

Narthangai Thokku Recipe | Narthangai Pachadi Recipe |  Citron Pickle (Bitter Orange Pickle):


Ingredients:


Narthangai/Citron - 2 nos
Tamarind - Small lemon size
Powdered Jaggery - 10 tsp
Small Onions - 15 finely chopped
Gingelly Oil - 6 tsp
Salt - As required
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Curry Leaves - Few
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp


To Grind:

Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Red Chillies - 10
Corriander seeds - 4 tsp

Preparation:


1. Soak tamarind in water and extract thick juice.


                                           


2. Clean Narthangai/Citron and cook in pressure cooker for 1 whistle in high flame.



3. Heat oil in a pan and fry corriander seeds, red chillies, cumin seeds and grind them in a mixie.




4. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter. Add onions and fry well followed by curry leaves.

                                      


5. Add the ground powder, citron, turmeric powder, jaggery powder, salt, asafoetida and required water to boil.



6. Allow it to boil and let it get thickened.




Your Narthangai pachadi is ready to store. Allow it to cool completely and store it in a air tight bottle. Keep it in fridge for long shelf life.
