Homemade Sathu Maavu - Multigrain Porridge - Health Mix Powder Recipe for kids and adults

Nowadays people prefer making everything at home to protect the health of the family. Sathu Maavu/Homemade Health mix powders are nowadays very common in the market which shows the interest of buyers to take care of their health. My mom always prepares Sathu Maavu Podi/Health mix powder at home for my kid. I am going to share you the recipe for Sathu Maavu/Health mix powder for babies less than a year old in another post and this version is for kids and adults.

Homemade Sathu Maavu | Mutligrain Health Mix Powder Recipe:


Ingredients:


Ragi/Keppai - 1/2 kg
Kambampul/Millet - 1/2 kg
Samba Wheat - 1/4 kg
Green gram - 100 g
Urad Dhal - 100 g
Chickpeas - 100 g
Dried Green peas - 100 g
Cowpea beans - 100 g(Cowpea beans is English name, Thattampayaru in Tamil)
Fried Gram/Porikadalai - 100 g
Corn seeds - 100 g
Parboiled rice - 100 g
Sago/Javvarisi - 100 g
Cashewnuts - 50 g
Groundnuts - 100 g
Badam/Almond - 50 g
Pistachios - 50 g
Cardamom - 100 g
Omam - 25g
Chukku/Dry ginger - 5 pieces
Poppy seeds/Kasakasa - 25 g

Preparation:


1. Clean Ragi, Millet and Green Gram separately and drain the water. 

2. Keep everything separately in wet clothes and hang them for 2 days and 2 nights. Sprinkle water now and then so that the clothes are always wet.

3. Open it and dry them separately in shade(in different plates).

4. Clean parboiled rice, urad dal, samba wheat separately, chickpeas, cowpea beans, dried green peas  and dry them in shade.

5. Grind dry ginger in mixie. 

6. Grind Omam in a mixie separately.

7. Once everything got dried, fry all the ingredients separately and grind it in a mill.

Now, Sathu maavu podi/Mutligrain health mix powder is ready. I will post how to prepare Sathu Maavu kanji in a separate post.

  1. should it be boiled in milk or can v just mix it with hot milk?

  2. Hi Abaya, Thanks for visiting. I will make a new post on how to make health mix with step by step instructions and pictures soon.

    Now, I will give you a heads up. Take already boiled milk and mix the hralth mix powder with it. Mix well till there are no lumps. Add sugar or any natural sweetner. Heat it till the powder is cooked well. Bubbles will start coming. Stir continuously to avoid lumps. Add water or milk if required. Donot add too much of water. It will not be tasty if we add more water.
