Tomato Kurma - Veg Onion Tomato Kurma Recipe | Thakkali Vengaya Kurma Recipe:

Veg onion tomato kurma is one of the easiest side dish you can make. I have already posted how to make easy tomato side dish for chapathi/roti. Now, a little change in that tomato side dish recipe will give a all new spicy and tasty veg kurma for chapathi. Onion Tomato Kurma does not need any vegetables other than big onion and tomato to make it tasty even though you can add potato if you like.




Even my kid loves it. Veg Onion Tomato kurma is a very good side dish to prepare for guests too. Now, let us see the recipe of Veg Onion Tomato Kurma. Even you can use this kurma as a side dish for dosa, idli and rice. You can add less spices if you are having kurma for dosa, idli or rice.

Veg Onion Tomato Kurma Recipe

Easy side dish recipe - Veg Onion Tomato Kurma

Ingredients:

  • Onion - 1 Big onion
  • Tomato - 3 Medium size
  • Coriander Powder - 1 tbsp
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
  • Salt - As required
  • Water - Ad required
  • Coriander leaves - To garnish
  • Omapodi/Sev - To make the kurma crunchy(optional)

  • To Grind

  • Coconut - 3 tbsp grated
  • Fried Gram/Pottukadalai - 2 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp

  • To Temper

  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Hing - A pinch







Instructions: 


1. Chop the big onion and tomatoes finely.

2. Grind the grated coconut, fried gram and garam masala powder in a mixed grinder with a little water to a paste. 






3. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. Allow the mustard seeds to splutter. Add urad dal, hing and curry leaves and fry them. 


4. Add onions and fry them till they become translucent. Add tomatoes and fry them for 3 minutes.



5. Add the ground paste, coriander powder, red chilli powder, salt and turmeric powder. Add water little by little to get the required consistency. Allow it to boil till the raw smell of ground paste goes off. Adjust the powders if required. 




6. Switch it off and garnish with coriander leaves. Add omapodi/sev to make the tomato kurma more crunchy. My dad innovated this idea and we all liked it so much. Although, this is optional do not forget to add when you have omapodi/sev in stock.
